Description

Interesting the application of the sign with the timetable. This poster, born at the beginning of the century, has as basis a sketch by Metlicovitz representing just the lake, the vaporetto and a garland of roses. In the printed poster in the middle of the garland appeared a space with a brown frame left in white (see photo of the same avant la lettre). It is not known whether this space was designed by Metlicovitz himself rather than by the lithographer, Alfieri & Lacroix factory in Milan. In any case, the goal of the client, the Lake Como ship company, was obviously the advertising of the company itself and the communication of departure times. The empty space was used at the beginning of the century to write these times by hand, then the timetable were printed separately and pasted over the space left free. These posters have been used for at least 40 years and our specimen shows a timetable of the 1949. Poster backed on  linen. Very good condition, signs of folding.
