Description
One of the first sound films in the history of cinema. It was originally born as a silent film. Later, sound effects and parts of dialogue were added. In fact, FILM SONORA is engraved in large letters on the poster, as the first totally spoken film was Lights of New York had been released only a year earlier. The story of the beautiful journalist Jerry Cullen (Phyllis Haver) is told, tasked with solving a rather mysterious murder case.
The abstract of the plot is very interesting in which it is explained how only a faible femme, an apparently inept and low-profile woman, will instead be able to clarify the mystery on which much more competent professionals than there focused uselessly. The drawing of the emancipated protagonist, intent on making a phone call, cigarette between her fingers and bare legs on the desk takes up an important frame of the film. The poster advertises the release of the American film The Office Scandal, in France in 1930. At the Bibliothèque Nationale we found some set images, used for the film’s lobby cards. Very rare and valuable, it has been lined on fine canvas, as was often done in France, while in Italy and the USA thicker and more resistant canvas is used. Thisexample comes from Madrid, we do not know of any other European editions except this French one.
