Description
MUD ON THE STARS – Elia Kazan, 1960 100×140 To build a dam on the Tennessee River, the engineer in charge Chuck must expropriate the land of an elderly lady and her granddaughter Carol, who live on an islet in the river. The two women oppose each other, but the girl falls in love with Chuck and flees with him to Tennessee, neglecting the family destinies. The film did not have the right recognition from the critics of the time, as it was considered to support too ecological theses. Ten years later, the same director, famous for “On the Waterfront”, shoots on the same theme “A Streetcar Named Desire”, where the role of Chuck is played by the great Montgomery Clift. By an anonymous illustrator, the billboard portrays the two lovers kissing, she barefoot with jeans and a yellow sweater, he elegant, shiny shoes and raincoat, as if to also emphasize the difference in class that was very present at the time. Given the rarity and the time of production of the poster, we preferred to have it lined on canvas.
