Are the posters we sell all originals ?

Our posters are guaranteed to be original. We are also part of the IVPDA (International Vintage Poster Dealers Association). In practice, the posters we sell were printed in the period 1880-1980 (one is from 1874!) and therefore they are “objects” at least fifty years old. Each one is sold accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the owner of the company, Andrea Re or its founder Edoardo Re. We do not sell reproductions of any kind, such as reprints, so-called “second editions”, “decorative” posters, artworks, fine art and so on.

Why are they so expensive?

Unlike reproductions, the original posters from the time in which they were printed for the first time had to survive the risk of tears, humidity, folds or dirt for decades. Excessive light, or the backing on linen itself with inadequate techniques, can also have damaged them. This is why the complete survivors in good condition are a small part of those produced. Their price therefore depends mainly on rarity and state of preservation, as well as obviously on the author, the subject and the market.

Are there any other posters available besides those that appear on the MILANO MANIFESTI website?

Of course, those that appear on our website are about a tenth of the posters available, which are more than 12,000 (but we have never counted them!). So feel free to ask if by chance we have the poster or the subject you are interested in, we will do our best to satisfy you also through other collectors or dealers, or by sending a query to our colleagues at the IVPDA.

How many copies do you have of each poster?

Generally we have only one specimen , but it can also happen that we have collected small batches. It is for this reason that those interested in a certain poster are sent specific and detailed photos of the specimen that is available at that time and will arrive, usually these are 5 photos, including the back, that we take for the occasion. Especially for older posters, in fact, there are no two identical specimens and a purchase via the internet can reserve nasty surprises as the specimens change, but the photos with which they are presented often remain.

What condition are they in?

The state of conservation can be very different from one specimen to another, as well as the conservation technique used. Some posters are perfectly preserved, others, on the contrary, are destroyed, others are in need of minor restoration, others are already restored. The most beautiful posters have been backed on linen or on paper or are under glass/plexiglas.
Ask on a case-by-case basis and you will be explained how I found the poster, what interventions, if any, have been carried out, and in what state it is now. If interested, you will receive other specific photos of the specimen you are about to buy.

What do the measures indicated refer to?

The measurements indicated in the description refer to the size of the original poster, and are expressed in centimeters. The edges of any canvas, usually from 3 to 5 cm, are excluded from the indicated measurement.

Are the posters backed on linen ?

The most beautiful and the largest are backed on linen, i.e. canvas, both to preserve them and to be able to handle them without fear of damaging them. A canvas poster, for example, can be rolled up, unrolled, and slid on a surface without any risk. These are precious posters, so it was still worth spending money on their backing.
Brief terminological premise: the backing on linen process, sometimes also called “canvas”, should not be confused with framing as a painting. The first consists of gluing (technically called “lining”) of the poster on a canvas support. Framing as a painting instead consists of mounting the poster, most often canvas, on a wooden frame, as if it were a painting, creating what is currently called “canvas”. The result is a poster that could be hanging as a painting without frame, glass and so on. This is interesting because in this way the poster preserves its former nature of a poster exhibited on a street wall. Returning to backing on linen, this is made by specialized professionals who use techniques and materials, i.e. fabrics, papers and glues that are specific for this use, for example anti-acid, with a degree of flexibility, shrinkage and enlargement that is predictable (and therefore preventable). In principle, backing on linen is a reversible intervention, thanks to the natural glues used and the soluble anti-acid papers that are interposed between the poster and the canvas, for example the so-called Japanese papers.
Smaller posters, e.g. up to 100 x 70 cm, can be more easily preserved without the need to linen them, also because their destination is most often to be preserved and displayed under glass. Relationships with our collaborators for restoration, canvassing, framing and framing are constant, so do not hesitate to contact us even if only to have your poster arranged as you wish. You will thus know what can or is advisable to do, how much it costs and how quickly the work would be ready.

Once I have bought a poster, how can I be sure I can enjoy it at home?

Can you do everything without coming to the store?

Can I give a poster as a gift without having to choose it myself?

Both by email and directly in the store there is the possibility of purchasing gift vouchers. Gift vouchers are particularly suitable when you do not know the tastes of the final beneficiary or the location that he could give to the poster at home or elsewhere. They are provided only for amounts over 100 euros and consist of the issue of an elegant voucher on a vintage postcard, which is delivered or sent to whoever is indicated. The chosen poster is then delivered or sent upon simple presentation or shipment of the voucher itself.

Are there wedding lists?

Yes, of course, they work in an extremely simple way, and are also possible without the need to come to the store both by the bride and groom and by the guests. Contact us for more details.

When will I receive my poster ?

It is usually shipped within three working days of payment and delivery takes place for Italy within a few days. As soon as it is shipped, the customer and/or recipient is notified of the tracking number.

Can you buy it directly in the store?

For those who live in Milan and its surroundings and have the opportunity to come to the store, this is the best way to directly realize everything that is available, see it, touch it (appreciating for example the grease of lithographic inks) and smell it (often the smell is decisive for appreciating its age).
Coming to the shop is also a nice opportunity to see the collection, exchange opinions, surf among the hundreds of volumes on the posters, drink an aperitif or tea. If you have time and really want to enjoy the visit it is not essential, but it is certainly better to announce it, so we organize ourselves, also to bring out what you are looking for. Also keep in mind that near the shop there are excellent restaurants, wine bars and appetizers both Italian and foreign.

How much does shipping cost?

The posters are shipped in a protective rigid cardboard tube and are wrapped in waterproof film inside. This means that the poster does not move in the tube during transport and avoids the risk of creasing the edges.
The cost is always announced in advance and the type of shipping can be agreed. In principle and for Italy it ranges from 20 to 50 Euros depending on the weight, size, speed of delivery and insurance. Packaging is free.
In case of orders over 300 Euros, shipping in Italy is free.

Is the shipment covered by insurance?

Insurance is always useful and becomes necessary for the most valuable posters. The shipment is always traceable. It is important that someone is present at the destination address to receive and sign the receipt. It is always useful to indicate a telephone number of the recipient which, when possible, is transcribed in the travel documents and/or on the package. It is usually indicated that in the event of non-delivery, the return to the sender is made.

How do I pay?

You can pay online through PayPal, phone recharge, postal order or bank transfer. In the store, payment can be in cash, by debit card or credit card (VISA, Diners, Mastercard, Maestro), not by bank checks.

How much VAT do you pay?

As an antique, i.e. used goods, the poster is exempt from VAT for the buyer.

Can I pay in installments?

No, it cannot be paid in installments, but the poster can be blocked with a deposit of an amount equal to at least 20% of the total. This deposit has the character of a confirmatory deposit and the balance must be paid within 30 days under penalty of losing the deposit.

If I don’t like or don’t like the poster, can I return it?

Within 15 days of purchase, the poster can be returned to MILANO MANIFESTI. If the conditions are exactly identical to those of delivery, a voucher of the same amount is returned that can be used in the following six months. In the event that this return operation is not carried out in the store, but remotely, the shipping costs are borne by the buyer and the return of the money is made after receipt and after checking the condition of the poster.

If I get tired of a poster, are you willing to change it ?

Of course, if the poster has been purchased from us, we are always available to change it. This is an innovative formula aimed at allowing a replacement of the posters that are kept at home. In fact, it may happen after a while to get tired of the poster hanging in the living room or bedroom, to have changed furniture or home, or simply to prefer something else. Unlike the case of withdrawal, the exchange will not be at par. Concretely, and only if at least six months have passed since the purchase, MILANO MANIFESTI offers the possibility, by presenting the relevant receipt, to exchange your poster for other material of equal value to that purchased minus 30%. This means that, when you buy a poster from MILANO MANIFESTI, you can be sure that you can bring it back to us to exchange it. The case in which you offer us your poster for a repurchase is different, as it is necessary to consider the tax and structural expenses incurred at the time of sale.

Do you also buy posters, or do you make evaluations?

Of course, we are always interested in buying old original posters.

If you are uncertain about the sale or simply want to get an idea of the value of your piece, do not hesitate to come and show us. The valuation is free of charge, while for a written appraisal there is a fee of 5% of the value.
