Description

Poster in excellent general condition, just some little tears without deficiencies at the upper right edge, detail photos obviously available. It consists of 4 pieces 47.2″ x 62.9″ for a whole size of 94.4″ x 125.9″ The first editions of this D’Ylen image are from the twenties and were produced in a lot of sizes and media. After the war the advertising campaign of the Filver company continued and it is in this period that this edition in four sheets was produced, always in lithography, where the signature is preceded by the clarification “d’apres” since the author died in 1938.

Characteristic of the author is the use of imaginary and funny figurines represented on a black background so that they stood out from the walls in which the poster was posted. This choice was the prerogative of the most famous poster designer Leonetto Cappiello. The two worked together for years at Vercasson’s lithographic atelier and when, in 1916, Cappiello left to work for Devambez, D’Ylen became its main designer.
